The successful applicant will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a biological science, and hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals – DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA) or equivalent. To operate effectively in this role, you must hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or equivalent qualification or experience at SVQ 3 or equivalent level. You must also have up-to-date basic knowledge and understanding of zoo legislation and best practice, along with a sound basis of practical knowledge and skills about good animal management including dietary knowledge. The successful applicant will be an experienced mammal keeper and will have at least three years experience of working with zoo animals. The Seasonal Rangers will be staffing some of the animal walkthrough enclosures, delivering some of the enclosure talks and engaging with guests around the zoo with a variety of props and biofacts.

The remainder of the time will be spent working directly with the keepers and the animals on the Section’s Animal Strings. The Zoological Manager will be available to assist in procedures and projects, answer questions, facilitate maintenance or grounds work, coordinate interdepartmental projects etc. The Zoological Manager will cover Section Strings as a floating keeper as necessary. Staff within the Section will report directly to the Zoological Manager. He/She will perform job performance evaluations with staff in his/her work section and ongoing performance management.
